Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras’ Fall Performance

Join Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra as they present their fall performance at Orchestra Hall on Sunday, November 17. Led by Music Director Allen Tinkham, the orchestra will present the Chicago premiere of Transcend by composer Zhou Tian, written to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad.

The piece was commissioned by Reno Philharmonic in partnership with CYSO and 11 other professional orchestras, each located along the route of the original transcontinental railway. The concert will also feature Augusta Read Thomas’s Of Paradise and Light and Saint-Saens’ Organ Symphony, along with Concerto Competition winner Nicholas Boettcher performing Koussevitzky’s Bass Concerto. CYSO will also present this year’s Alumni Award to Lyric Opera’s William Cernota.
