Chicago Tribune FOOD BOWL
FOOD BOWL is a celebration of this city’s foodways from mom-and-pop taco joints to fine-dining restaurants, Food Bowl runs Aug. 14-Sept. 1, with more than 100 diverse events throughout the city, conceived and hosted by the foodmakers themselves.
From South Side to North, from downtown to the neighborhoods, expect such events as special restaurant dinners (like a Japanese-French collaboration menu), wine, beer and cocktail tastings (like a Chicago River wine cruise), classes (such as farmers market cooking demos) and special food offerings (like the secret veal parm sandwich with a cult following).
Highlights include the Bronzeville Chef’s Revival and Homecoming (with chefs Erick Williams, Virtue, Brian Jupiter, Frontier and Ina Mae’s, Darnell Reid, Luella’s Southern Kitchen and Gospel Bird, Cedric Harden, River Roast, and desserts by Stephanie Hart, Brown Sugar Bakery and Maya Camille-Broussard, Justice of the Pies); and Dining on the 5, a celebration of Greater Chatham restaurants. The Night Market, a three-night walk-around party and tasting, moves to Chicago’s celebrated Riverwalk. And the festival kicks off Aug. 13 with a chef-packed launch party, Chicago Tribune Collaboration Lab, at City Hall restaurant with tastings from Mi Tocaya Antojeria, the Swill Inn, Virtue, Bierria Zaragoza, The Duck Inn, City Hall, Brown Sugar Bakery and more.
