Dig out those old video tapes and bring them to Home Video Day! Attendees are invited to bring a tape to be projected for the audience, or to simply show up and enjoy what’s on the screen. Videos will run the gamut from birthdays, parties, pageants, weddings, sports, movie re-enactments, to who knows what!
We invite you to laugh and cry at the touching and beguiling world of home movies. Even if you don’t have any tapes, please come and enjoy.
The rules are simple – bring your VHS, VHS-C, Hi-8, Video 8 or Mini-DV cassette to the team of inspectors, who will make whatever repairs are necessary to ensure the tape is playable, and can answer your questions about videotape care and digitization. Contributors can choose to cue up the tape to begin at a particular point or simply let it play out at random. Each submission will receive 5 minutes of screening time, and patrons will have time to introduce their tape beforehand if they wish, or to narrate along with the action on screen.
This program is produced in partnership with Video Data Bank, Media Burn, and Museum of Contemporary Art Assistant Curator Christy LeMaster with the Performance and Public Practice team.
