Chicago Children's Choir Presents Unsettlement Anthems

The “Unsettlement Anthems” program features selections from Hearne’s Sound from the Bench (2014, Chicago Premiere), which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in composition in 2018 and is based on texts from the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, drawing further inspiration from the idea of corporate personhood; Fervor (2018); Animals (2018, Chicago Premiere); selections from Privilege (2009); and a preview of selections from Place (2018), a fiery meditation on the topic of gentrification and displacement that premiered to critical acclaim in October 2018 and featured four soloists from Hearne’s time as a Chicago Children’s Choir member: Josephine Lee, Isaiah Robinson, Sophia Byrd, and Ayanna Woods – each of whom will reprise their solos for the Chicago performances at MCA for “Unsettlement Anthems.”
