Behind The Lens: Photography Masterclass with Nigel Barker

21c Museum Hotel Chicago and internationally renowned fashion photographer Nigel Barker are excited to host the upcoming Behind the Lens Photography Masterclass on Friday, September 22.

This intimate event will take guests “behind the lens” and onto the set of a high fashion shoot, followed by a cocktail reception.

ABOUT THE EVENT: Nigel built his career photographing celebrity magazine covers and top advertising campaigns and is perhaps best known as the judge and photographer on the reality show America’s Next Top Model. Using images and stories from his career, Nigel will illustrate how each image was made and how he approaches his subject, achieves unexpected lighting, and pushes boundaries.

On set, Nigel will photograph three different models highlighting a high fashion shoot, portraiture session, and movement. He will demonstrate how to sculpt the light, direct and pose a model and use props and fans while collaborating with the stylist and hair and makeup. Utilizing a high-energy atmosphere, Nigel will show how to connect and engage the model to develop an intimate relationship to create a narrative within each image. The evening will wrap with a cocktail reception with Nigel and his first assistant providing additional time to ask questions and an opportunity to be photographed by him.
