Chicago Opera Theater (COT) presents an evening of two Chicago Premiere one-act operas, Another Sunrise and For a Look or a Touch, on Saturday, May 27 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, May 28 at 3:00 PM at the Athenaeum Center, 2936 N Southport Ave.
Written by the iconic American opera writing team of composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer, and produced by Music of Remembrance, both operas are richly emotional portraits of real people, and their responses to circumstances that defy comprehension. This compelling double bill highlights the redemptive power of memory, helping one appreciate those touched by the Holocaust in all their complicated humanity.
Another Sunrise, starring soprano Caitlin Lynch, is an intimate portrait of one Auschwitz survivor’s struggle to find words capable of describing her harrowing experiences. In For a Look or a Touch, bass- baritone Ryan McKinny and actor Curt Branom portray two idealistic young lovers torn apart under Nazi rule.
The program is in English with English supertitles and lasts 120 minutes with one intermission. Tickets are $20-$90 and can be purchased at cot.org
