Annie Dorsen: The Great Outdoors
  • Writer-director Annie Dorsen’s The Great Outdoors takes place within an inflatable structure on the theater stage where the public is invited to stretch out on the floor for a sublime journey through ‘inner space.’ Inside the artificial planetarium, with stars cast upon a dark, domed ceiling, a lone performer reads texts culled from internet comments from the past 24 hours and fed through an algorithm. Fragments of narrative emerge as the performance gives voice and body to the thoughts of countless individuals tapping away at their keyboards in geographic isolation, reflecting the cosmic nature of the World Wide Web and posing the internet as a new form of celestial authority. The Great Outdoors features a unique star show designed by Dorsen in collaboration with Ryan Holsopples and is set to a live mixed score by Sébastien Roux.
