A Village Before Us art exhibition

A Village Before Us is a unique showcase featuring the creative prowess of nine contemporary Vietnamese artists who call Chicago home. While the pervasive narrative around Vietnam has often been tied to war and its aftermath, our exhibition strives to transcend this, delving into themes of cultural production, heritage, identity, memory, and aspirations. This initiative gains added resonance as we approach the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnamese-American War. Through this lens, we aim to illuminate the profound contributions Vietnamese and Vietnamese-Americans have made to Chicago’s vibrant art and cultural tapestry.

The exhibition is thoughtfully curated by Thuy-Tien Vo, a distinguished Fulbright Scholar from Vietnam, with the co-curation expertise of Dr. Nora Taylor, a renowned South-East Asian art historian from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

This exhibition has weekly events, ranging from live performances to enlightening lectures and discussions. One highlight is Dr. Nora Taylor’s presentation on the Albert Goodman collection of Vietnamese art, scheduled for Friday, November 17th, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
