Ah, soup . . . that warm, savory soul balm that makes cold and blustery (or just plain difficult) days a little bit more bearable. When a warmed-up can of potage just isn’t good enough, Chicago eateries come through with some tastes-like-homemade options that will have you checking the kitchen to make sure your grandma is not in there stirring pots. Hungry now? Well, here are five tasty, hearty soups that are oh-so-worth trying.

It's December in Chicago and baby, it's cold outside. That legendary Chicago windchill is starting to whip up the city's cold factor. But no worries. This is the perfect time to explore some spicy cuisine in three of Chicago's eclectic neighborhoods. So pull on a comfy coat and head to your corner of the city or venture to an area you've yet to explore, BronzevilleRogers Park or the West Loop, for a warming culinary adventure.

Polar Adventure days family

Don your cold weather gear and head to Northerly Island, a 91 acre peninsula that juts into Lake Michigan, for some Chicago-style Polar Adventures Days this winter! Known for its nature, Northerly Island is a great spot for both migratory bird watching and fishing. In the winter, its views of the icy lake and snowy city are chilly but spectacular. Stop by this Saturday January 25 and again on Saturday February 22 for some special Polar Adventure Days fun.

Chicago may be getting some serious snow lately, but did you know that you can tour the city by barely stepping outside? Chicago has a system of passages in Chicago called the "Pedway System" that connect buildings underground, on ground-level and also elevated above the street. If a warmer experience strikes your fancy, the Pedway system will get you closer to many stores, restaurants, and museums in the heart of downtown without even stepping outside.

Here are three ideas for making the best of your snow day.
