It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago, and that means there are lots of fun (and mostly FREE) events in the city. Bookmark this list to make sure that you don’t miss out on any of these St. Patrick's Day holiday happenings starting tomorrow March 11 and throughout the weekend!

There is perhaps no more welcoming place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago than the Irish American Heritage Center on the city’s Northwest Side. Of course, you’d do well to check out many of their other programs and exhibitions, but let’s start by talking about what’s going on there this year for St. Patrick’s Day.

St. Patrick's Day isn't just a drinking holiday. On the contrary, it's one of the best food holidays of the year, with restaurants, bars, and bakeries celebrating Irish heritage through a miscellany of unique specials. This year, the variety taking shape throughout Chicago includes everything from gourmet riffs on Shamrock Shakes to Guinness pizzas.

With our strong Irish roots, no city celebrates St. Patrick's Day with the fervor of Chicagoans. But not all the festivities are, shall we say, family-friendly.
