You can ring in the New Year with food, fun, and festivities - even if you've got kids in tow. Thankfully, a handful of Chicago venues have kept families in mind by offering kid-friendly fun. Here are seven ideas for a festive Chicago-style New Year's Eve with the entire family.

Mucca Pazza

It's hard to believe we're already here again. It seems like just yesterday we were planning how we were going to ring in 2014, then planning our festival season, then anticipating the fall tours, and so on.

But the year is drawing to a close. If you thought your choices for New Year's Eve were tough in 2013, the options are more enticing than ever this December 31. Unfortunately most of these shows are a hot ticket so you'll have to make up your mind quickly. The positive flip side, though, is that you can't go wrong with any of them.

New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is a big night for concerts in Chicago, and you've waited long enough to buy tickets. We have to hand it to our local venue's this year - the decision as to where to ring in 2014 is harder than ever. One thing is for sure: start planning ahead. Several of the area NYE shows have already sold out and you can be assured that many more will. Here are the best concerts that still have tickets available and are worthy of ringing in the new year.

Luckily, Chicago's comedy theatres are ready to pop your cork this December 31.

And -- if you're anything like me -- even though you've been getting e-mails about and seeing advertisements for NYE shows since what seems like July, you still don't have tickets purchased. Here's what's still available on the concert front for December 31.

You've procrastinated long enough. Every year, you wait around for someone else to make New Year's Eve plans and, inevitably, spend December 31 at a weird house party or cheesy nightclub. Well, this year is different! Kick down the door on 2013 with an event that offers more than a plastic hat and midnight champagne toast.
