With Chicago's famous blues and soul heritage, there are plenty of shows capping off December, whether you're in the mood for a high-energy end to the year or one that's sultry smooth. Check out these Chicago holiday shows at Rosa's Blues Lounge, The Promontory, and City Winery, awesome venues to catch some great performers as you ring in the New Year.

Shemekia

As the city's largest music festival and the largest blues festival in the world, the FREE Chicago Blues Festival supplies a mind-boggling array of the genre in all of its forms. From June 10-12, the city, dubbed "The Blues Capital of the World", will celebrate its significant heritage, attracting an expected 500,000 blues fans to Grant Park over the course of 3 days. With 4 stages, plus a dedicated "street stage", its easy to get overwhelmed with all of the choices. Here's a breakdown of highlights not to miss:

Badi Assad

Carnival season may be over but music lovers can still enjoy the Brazilian rhythms of singer-songwriter Badi Assad. The influential Brazilian musician, who hails from a noted family of artists, brings her innovative guitar stylings to Old Town School of Folk Music on March 2 for their World Music Wednesdays series.
