The Lyric Opera of Chicago specializes in harnessing the power of costumery, scenery, light and sound effects, and above all, movement, music and voice to take audience members to altogether new places, time periods and heights. As an epic opera unfolds onstage, it's easy to find yourself suddenly transported to lively Latin Quarter of France, to a soldier-filled square in Seville or to 19th century Calabria, among a traveling troupe of clowns.

Are you as excited as we are that the weekend is finally here? Well the excitement is only getting started. Stars of Lyric Opera

Featuring hundreds of free events and exhibitions, May through September, the Millennium Park Summer Celebration gives both Chicagoans and visitors the chance to enjoy the best of summer in one of the most beautiful urban parks in the world. One of the celebration's most anticipated events will hit the stage of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion on Friday, Sept. 11, at 7:30 p.m.: Stars of Lyric Opera at Millennium ParkPack a picnic and spread a blanket out on the lawn for a seriously star-studded evening - both in the sky above and on the stage.

Second Nature

Imagine taking in live, classical opera together with the lions, tigers and bears. The Lyric Opera of Chicago is setting up shop at the zoo of all places this summer. 'Second Nature,' a new opera for youth from the acclaimed composer/librettist Matthew Aucoin will premiere this summer at Café Brauer at Lincoln Park Zoo.

Classical opera and kids don't usually go hand in hand. But a new opera adventure created especially for kids ages 5 to 10, aims to introduce the younger set to the joys of live opera with the Lyric Opera of ChicagoThe Magic Victrola, on Saturday, January 17 at 3 p.m., at the Civic Opera House in downtown Chicago, is Lyric Unlimited's third annual performance especially designed for youngsters and their families.
