As one walks south on Michigan Avenue from Congress Parkway, a gleaming image emerges on the west side of the street. Beyond the glass facade of the Spertus Museum of Judaica and the buildings of Columbia College, there it is: the Blackstone Hotel, a beacon of good taste and luxury since the day it opened its doors in in 1910.

The Hollander is one of Chicago’s top-rated hostels/hotels, located in Chicago's trendy Wicker Park neighborhood. It sits where Wicker Park meets Bucktown, making it the ideal location for accessing some of Chicago’s best nightlife and culture. It’s just steps away from the Damen Blue Line 'L' stop for ultimate convenience (to O'Hare airport and downtown), and a meeting place for travelers, with plenty of options for added privacy and comfort.

Sir Richard Branson came to Chicago in a big way and Virgin Hotels Chicago is another delightful reminder of his golden touch. (Quick note: he also appears in the introduction on the TV in each room, so he does make an “appearance” to each guest, in a matter of speaking.) In the past few years, the debut hotel brand has garnered buzz from a variety of outlets. It makes a perfect place to camp out for a brief trip to check out all that Chicago has to offer.

Hotel Palomar

Perhaps you've never been to the River North area of Chicago. Some call it RiNo (pronounced like the sizable animal) and this linguistic reduction is just another way to move more quickly to a description of the area's steakhouses, lounges and other pastimes.

If you've never been, you might want to plan for a night over at the Hotel Palomar. Of course, if you have frequented the area before this is also the perfect time to spend the night, slow things down and enjoy all they have to offer.

A Weekend on Wacker

Wacker - Penthouse Ballroom

Time spent in the Loop is always time well spent, so why not spend an entire weekend enjoying all that it is has to offer? Amidst the many excellent hotels on Wacker Drive, you'd do well to spend a few evenings at the Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront. It's close by the Museum of Broadcast Communications, the Chicago Theatre, and a host of fabulous bars and restaurants, and a short jaunt on the Riverwalk may be just the thing for the curious visitor or local who hasn't checked it out in a while.

Gold Coast

Because Michigan Avenue was developed in the 1920s as a sort of extension to downtown, which is officially south of the river, several beautiful buildings line the street among the flashy newness of a shoppers dream. This part of Michigan Avenue, north of the river, is called The Magnificent Mile, or "Mag Mile" for short. And while your experience of Chicago will likely entail some of the newest restaurants, postmodern skyscrapers, and perhaps the new Maggie Daley Park next to Millennium Park, you can stay in a place of beautiful historic ambience right on the Mag Mile.
