If the names Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia elicit fond memories, then the fast-paced fun of the latest hilarious send-up from Hell in a Handbag Productions, The Golden Girls: The Lost Episodes (extended through September 16, 2017) will have you grinning ear to ear.

The entire cast is spot-on in this raunchy, ridiculous, and irresistible parody of the beloved television series. Bravo to Hell in a Handbag co-founder, resident playwright, Artistic Director, and recent Jeff Award honoree David Cerda, who has produced yet another hit for the beloved company.

The Golden Girls: The Lost Episodes is currently playing at Mary’s Attic (above Hamburger Mary’s) at 5400 North Clark Street.

Improv theater originated in Chicago, so it's no surprise that the Windy City hosts a wide array of improv theater troupes and productions. Some theaters such as The Second City and iO Theater draw national attention and some, like the quirky Cornservatory, are Chicago insider faves.

Since 1999, Cornservatory, a nonprofit theater, has been cracking up crowds with bawdy, inventive shows that examine everything from religion to sports and sci-fi. Here are two shows now playing at the Conservatory to consider expanding your theater intake:

Odysseo by Cavalia

Big top tents usually present shows with the expected formula of animal tricks, high-wire acts and prancing and plumed dancers. Well, Cavalia's new multidimensional extravaganza Odysseo kicks all of that tired spectacle right to the curb. A showcase of graceful horses, live music, acrobats, dancers and aerialists, this show lives up to the claim "the best show ever."

Destiny of Desire

Telenovela fans and followers of all things over the top and sudsy, give thanks. The Goodman Theatre's high-flying play Destiny of Desire, delivers enough drama, music and plain fun that you might be tempted to ditch the TV for theater. This flawless musical supplies all the best elements of telenovelas, layered with stellar theater production.

Gloria

Chicago is noted as a theater lover's paradise, and Goodman Theatre supplies a prime example of why with the enthralling 4-star satire Gloria (playing now through February 19). This startling peek into the insular walls of print media, and the ways popular culture and societal norms influence it, will leave a lasting impression long after the show is over.

Rough House

If you think puppets are just for kids, head out to the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival and prepare to be amazed. The second bi-annual event will feature talented puppetry artists from Chicago, across the country and all over the globe, for 11 days of performances and workshops.

The House Theatre's
