Much to the delight of theater fans, Chicago Shakespeare Theater has completed construction on quite the new addition: The Yard is the newest theater at Chicago Shakespeare's expansive Navy Pier campus. Chicago Shakespeare now boasts three theater spaces; in addition to the Courtyard Theater and the theater Upstairs, The Yard is the newest venue. The ribbon cutting ceremony took place on September 12, and the first production, James Thierrée's The Toad Knew, is set to open on September 19.

As we head into the final stretch of summer, it's time to pack in everything on your bucket list. Spend a long day building sandcastles on Oak Street Beach, hit up the museums you've missed, and enjoy dinner al fresco with a scenic view. While you're at it, why not run away and join the circus? Or hang out with your animal pals from Madagascar... wait—what?!

A Landmark Painting Comes to Life in Chicago

Last week, visitors of the Art Institute of Chicago got a surprise when the famous painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by George Seurat came to life in song. At the top of the museum's Grand Staircase leading to the Impressionist Galleries, a full-sized replica of Seurat's masterpiece was installed but devoid of most of the foreground characters, leaving visitors puzzled by the strange new version.
