There are few Chicago neighborhoods that boast more history than Bronzeville, the famed South Side community that has been the foundation for the city's cultural heritage for a century. It was in the theaters and streets of Bronzeville where blues and jazz were nurtured, and in the churches that the gospel sound was developed.

I like to see Chicago by riding the city's 'L,' and I encourage visitors to do the same. Most folks might take a quick trip around the Loop, but if you have a little extra time, a ride on the Brown Line will afford you a bird's-eye view of the city as the train travels to the Northwest Side. Hop off at the Kedzie stop (second-to-last on the line) and you'll find yourself in the diverse Albany Park neighborhood.

Gallery Guichard Chicago

Explore the art galleries and shops of the historic Bronzeville neighborhood during the last Bronzeville Trolley Tour of the summer, on Friday, September 16. From 6pm-9pm, trolleys will roll down Bronzeville arts district streets stopping at notable art galleries, shops and restaurants. FREE live music, food and drink add to the festivities for this can't miss event.
