Another Labor Day rolls around, but Chicago holds on to summer as long as it possibly can. We’ve written a guide to most of the festivals happening around town this weekend, such as the African Festival of the Arts, Taste of Polonia, the North Coast Music Festival and more. Of course, don’t miss out on the fireworks at Navy Pier. Here's our roundup of things to do in Chicago this weekend!

The end of the summer season pushes many locals to grab every last drop of outdoor fun and on Labor Day weekend, that means soaking up sublime rhythms at the Chicago Jazz Festival. This free event will fill the Chicago Cultural Center and Millennium Park with an impressive line-up of international, national and local artists from a broad spectrum of jazz categories. Chicago Jazz Festival

We're certainly not implying that jazz music ever stopped being a staple in Chicago but with two new venues opened in the last year and a half (Constellation in Roscoe Village and The Promontory in Hyde Park) and more jazz series popping up every summer, we are in the middle of a strong resurgence. The city's lifelong love affair with the genre culminates every Labor Day weekend in Millennium Park at the Chicago Jazz Festival.

Pritzker Pavilion

The Chicago Jazz Festival is a Labor Day weekend tradition with a reputation as one of the best yearly displays of jazz music's finest performers. It's a four-day festival that's been drawing fans from the Midwest and beyond since 1979, showing no signs of letting up. This year, the free festival runs Thursday, August 29, through Sunday, September 1, throughout the downtown area.

Lollapalooza

In addition to a wealth of awesome local street festivals, Chicago summers are also generously seasoned with big scale music festivals throughout our city's parks. When you only have so much time though (not to mention money in your bank), sometimes it's hard to decide which festivals you'll enjoy the most.

Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park

This year's Chicago Jazz Festival will celebrate its first year in Millennium Park on August 29-September 1, but the incredible roster of on-stage talent is nothing new. For more than 30 years, Chicago's showcased some of the country's leading jazz musicians and 2013's lineup promises the same level of swing note and big band proficiency.
