It's movie night. You have some freshly popped popcorn ready, an ice cold soda in hand, and a couple boxes of candy as you look upon the silver screen next to your friends, family, and some flamingos ... Flamingos? I'll explain.
This Thursday kicks off one of Lincoln Park Zoo's best summer and fall activities, Zoovies. Zoovies, or Movies at the Zoo, is an exciting new way for you and your family to do movie night. So what's the gist? The Lincoln Park Zoo keeps their gates open after dark and assembles a 26-by-16-foot screen on its south lawn. Open to the public, patrons can bring their lawn chairs and blankets and claim a spot on the lawn. As the sun goes down, the projector kicks on and patrons enjoy a movie night with a wild twist.
Like the Zoo, admission is completely free of charge! Outside food and beverages are not allowed in the zoo, but will be available for purchase at the event. If you are planning on purchasing some popcorn or beverages, I highly suggest you look at some great deals put out by the Lincoln Park Zoo and Groupon. You have a couple options.
The first is the VIP Package. This package includes one drink (beer, wine, soda, water), a slice of pizza, a bag of candy, and unlimited popcorn. You will also receive exclusive animal house access with an educational front-of-house tour and private bathrooms. This package is available on Groupon for only $19. If you spend 10 more dollars, you can receive the second package which includes all the amenities of the first package, but with parking.
This Thursday the 24th, the Lincoln Park Zoo will be playing the Will Ferrell and Chicago Native John C. Reilly blockbuster NASCAR comedy Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
The rest of the Zoovie show-dates are as follows:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Thursday, August 21 (rain date: Thursday, August 28)
