Summer is best exemplified by barbecue, beer, and outdoor festivities, all of which abound in strides at the Windy City Smokeout. Stocked with pitmasters/chefs from throughout Chicago and beyond, the Windy City Smokeout is the meaty, musical bash of the summer, taking place this year from July 10-12 on Grand Street by the Chicago River.
The third annual summer festival brings together barbecue, beer and country music in truly grandiose style. This year's lineup of participants hail from near and far, running the gamut of some of the country's best barbecue. Look for Chicago favorites like Bub City (which also serves as the event host), Chicago q; Lillie's Q; Smoque; and newly opened Dinosaur Bar-B-Que; along with Jack's New South out of Braselton, Georgia; Pappy's Smokehouse from St. Louis; The Salt Lick BBQ of Driftwood, Texas; and Ubons from Yazoo City, Mississippi.
In addition to all that finger-licking ‘cue, three-time barbecue World Champion Myron Mixon will be in attendance during the festival, hosting a hands-on class to teach tips and tricks. And on Sunday, Adam Richman of Travel Channel's "Man v. Food" will host a special BBQ brunch.
A new facet this year is the Amateur BBQ Rib Competition, which provides home chefs the opportunity to pit their ribs against their peers, cooking their wares on Pitmaster Q3 Smokers and consulting with Bub City's Doug Psaltis for tips.
Musical performers feature the likes of Kacey Musgraves on July 10, Chris Young on July 11, and Lee Brice on July 12.
