Lots to do this weekend. Lots. Eat some five-star food courtesy of all-star chefs at Chicago Gourmet, drop everything and dance at the David Bowie Variety Hour, slurp til you burp at the Shaw's Oyster Fest Block Party, and see some of the city's coolest museums for free. The choice(s) is/are yours ... you get the idea.
CHICAGO GOURMET (9/26-28)
One of the finest foodie fetes is returning to Millennium Park for its seventh year: Chicago Gourmet, presented by Bon Appetit! Enjoy a feast replete with gourmet food, wine, spirits and beer tastings; live cooking demos; educational seminars; and more. Rub shoulders with some of the world's greatest chefs as they entertain the crowd with delicious meals, and don't forget to check out the BBQ Pavilion, new this year!
DAVID BOWIE VARIETY HOUR (9/26-27)
David Bowie fever is in full force in Chicago with the opening of the Museum of Contemporary Art's "David Bowie Is" exhibit. Catch it with the David Bowie Variety Hour, as the MCA Stage presents an eclectic combination of Chicago performers celebrating David Bowie. Curated by Jyldo and accompanied by Nick Davio's house band, the program features Chicago club and stage stars, including BAATHHAUS, Chicago Tap Theatre, BOOM CRACK! Dance Company, dance tribute queen Kasey Foster, and LADY/WATCH.
Making mouth noises while eating is almost always unacceptable. However, sometimes it's just unavoidable with a few choice foods, like oysters! These delectable shelled creatures of the sea are the stars of the show at the Shaw's Oyster Fest Block Party, which this year celebrates its Oyster Bar 30th anniversary. Slurp down some divine East and West Coast oysters, fresh seafood bites, Goose Island beer, and live entertainment.
CHICAGO ARTISTS MONTH (9/27-10/31)
The 19th annual Chicago Artists Month kicks off this weekend, highlighting the work of hundreds of artists throughout the city with performances, exhibitions, open studios, tours and neighborhood art walks. Residents and visitors are invited to meet artists and see their work at venues across Chicago - the city's art scene is as vibrant as ever, and this is your best opportunity to see it in full.
MUSEUM DAY LIVE! (9/27)
Museum Day Live! allows you to visit a participating museum in our city for free on September 27. Since Smithsonian Museums offer free admission every day, Smithsonian magazine wants to offer the same deal for participating museums across the country for one day.
