GREAT CHICAGO FIRE FESTIVAL (9/26)
Those familiar with Chicago history know of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, and the city's subsequent "rebirth," rising from the ashes to create one of the world's most economically powerful metropolises. In celebration of this resurgence, the Great Chicago Fire Festival hosted at the city's scenic Northerly Island will unite the neighborhoods with special arts engagement activities, multiple musical performance stages and a neighborhood bazaar. It all culminates in a fireworks spectacular - and admission to all of this is for the low price of FREE.
OKTOBERFEST CHICAGO (9/25-27)
Germany ain't the only place that knows how to put on a smashing Oktoberfest! The best of all things Bavarian returns to St. Alphonsus Church in West Lakeview this weekend for its 15th anniversary. Sample beer, brats, giant pretzels and pop/German musical acts on two stages, or bring the little ones to the Kids' KinderFest where they can polka, joust and run through an obstacle course. Prost!
EDGEWATER FALL ART FAIR (9/26-27)
A multi-cultural, multi-generational lineup of 100+ artists showcasing original works in visual arts, music and fashion converge at the Edgewater Fall Art Fair Saturday and Sunday. Bring your cash and shopping spirit, you're gonna need it.
GRAND ART & DESIGN FESTIVAL (9/26-27)
In the heart of the Grand Avenue Design District in West Town lies this gem of a festival, formerly known as Design Harvest. The Grand Art & Design Festival continues the tradition of showcasing local home and garden design vendors, but has expanded to include local artisans and crafters, popular food trucks, clothing, handmade goods and more. The weather's supposed to be gorgeous, perfect for perusing the outdoor vendors, but don't forget about heading into the Indoor Art & Design section, EuroFurniture! Inside this warehouse lies even more brick and mortar home and garden design retailers.
HYDE PARK JAZZ FESTIVAL (9/26-27)
Where better to host live musical performances by critically acclaimed local, national and international jazz talents than in Hyde Park, a hotbed of the genre. Featuring an outdoor dance floor that'll let you get your groove on, artisan vendors, and film and discussion programs, the Hyde Park Jazz Festival is where it's at for all things jazz in Chicago this weekend.
