Party like it's every year after 1871 this weekend, Chicago! Yes, I'm referring to the year of the Great Chicago Fire, but we'll be celebrating the city's rebirth with Redmoon's Great Chicago Fire Festival on Saturday. Featuring neighborhood bazaars and culminating in a Grand Spectacle on the Chicago River, this festival is a major highlight of this stacked weekend. We've also got Revolution's Oktoberfest Party, a Mac & Cheese Fest, Taste Talks and Laughingstock. Is your body ready?
Revolution Brewing previews the new expansion of its Kedzie brewery at its annual Oktoberfest party. Admission includes a one-liter glass stein and a beer ticket, but attendees will be able to purchase additional beer and food while enjoying music an AC/DC cover act and a traditional German band.
TASTE TALKS (10/3-5)
Taste Talks, an innovative and experiential food symposium, is launching in Chicago for its first year this weekend. Presented by chef, restaurateur and media personality Mario Batali and curated by local James Beard Award-winning chef Paul Kahan, Taste Talks will bring together some of the world's top luminaries in food - from writers to critics and chefs - to discuss, analyze and theorize about the future of taste. Best of all, there will be an All-Star BBQ featuring some of the nation's favorite chefs throughout the weekend, so fill up on meat while you fill your brain with some peak foodie knowledge.
GREAT CHICAGO FIRE FESTIVAL (10/4)
Celebrating Chicago's grit, greatness and renewal following the devastating Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the inaugural Great Chicago Fire Festival is set to take over the Chicago River on Saturday with the grandest of spectacles. Presented by Redmoon, this new and totally free urban ritual incorporates a series of citywide Summer Celebrations that will culminate in a unique public River Bazaar and pyrotechnic Grand Spectacle on the main branch of the Chicago River. MAC & CHEESE FEST (10/4)
Everyone's favorite cheesy delight, Mac & Cheese will get its due this weekend with the Mac & Cheese Fest, serving up endless varieties of the beloved dish. Mac & Cheese Fest will feature approximately 60 Chicago chefs featuring their versions of the food, complementing the spread of appetizers, sides, craft beer and wine. Laughingstock: The Chicago Comedy Music Festival makes its triumphant return at The Public House Theatre. Featuring 26 comedy music artists from both Chicago and abroad on two stages, the 3rd annual Laughingstock promises to be the biggest night in Chicago comedy music history. The show kicks off at 2 p.m. and culminates in an all-band jam and a midnight dance party.
