Chicago Marathon

Writing about these awesome events in Chicago this weekend is making me antsy. I want to get out and explore! Hopefully you all feel the same, because there's a bevy of fresh things to do Friday through Sunday, including the BeerHoptacular, PINKTOBER Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, Windy City BBQ Classic and 2nd Fridays on the Chicago Cultural Mile.

And before you go saying you're gonna be tired of doing all of this - just imagine how those Bank of America Chicago Marathon runners will feel Sunday! That's right, the 26.2-mile foot race bookends what should be an unforgettable weekend.

Aragon Ballroom

Chicago's exploding craft beer scene has never been better, so why not head out to one of the city's largest beer festivals in BeerHoptacular? Entering its fifth year, Beer Hoptacular returns to historic Aragon Ballroom, where hundreds of innovative, rare and celebrated craft brews will be ready to drink. For one flat fee, attendees receive a tasting punch gard good for 30 samples, a BeerHoptacular souvenir tasting glass, and the chance to vote for Beer of the Year! PINKTOBER (10/11-12)

PINKTOBER festival

This weekend, musicians, fans and cancer survivors come together in honor of the 15th annual PINKTOBER Festival. Hosted by Hard Rock Cafe, this outdoor fest will have live music, food, family fun, German fare, Goose Island beverages and more. PINKTOBER benefits Bright Pink®, the only national non-profit organization focusing on the risk reduction and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women, while providing support for high-risk individuals. Come out and support this great cause during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and be sure to check out festival headliners including Scott DuBose & The 101 Ranch and Mike & Joe.

Celebrating 50 years, the Chicago International Film Festival will screen award-winning, thought-provoking, groundbreaking films from more than 55 countries for two weeks at AMC River East 21 in Streeterville. Take part in this unique opportunity to see world-class cinema from ultra talented artists and filmmakers that bring these stories to life. One of the best qualities of the festival is the sheer diversity of its offerings, with a number of competitive categories and highlight programs such as Black Perspectives, Cinema of the Americas and ReelWomen.

2nd Fridays

It's that time again! The second Friday of every month brings 2nd Fridays on the Chicago Cultural Mile. Enjoy free and sharply discounted entertainment, dining and activities. From discounted admission at the Gene Siskel Film Center to a complimentary glass of Mercat a la Planxa's signature sangria, to discounted Chicago Architecture Foundation tours, 2nd Fridays has something for everyone. Everyone loves a discount.

This weekend, Chicago will host 40+ BBQ Pit Masters in a REAL BBQ Competition! Teams from across the USA - from back-yard BBQ Kings to Memphis In May Winners - will fire up their smokers in a No Gas, No Electricity competition for the title of Grand Champion! It's all you can eat BBQ, people, obviously you're gonna go. Craft beer samplings are also included in your ticket price, just the delicious BBQ sauce icing on this meat cake ... or something.
