Shawn Colvin and Melissa Etheridge are performing in Chicago this weekend. Back in '97, those two got me through a lot of cold nights in Poughkeepsie during my sophomore year at Vassar. To say thanks, I'll be at City Winery tonight belting out "Sunny Came Home" in a puddle of Chardonnay soaked tears. The best way to recover from a folk-rock induced exploration of your love scorned past is to have a little fun. So I'm hitting the town, like, wayyy hard this weekend.
Artisan Market Streeterville (11/10-11/11)
Do you have a Pinterest account? Did you thoroughly enjoy (500) Days of Summer? Are you sorely lacking in hand knitted iPhone covers? If you answered "yes" to any of the above, we'll see you at this exclusive weekend hub for all things cute, hip and crafty.
2012 Umbrella Music Festival (Through 11/11)
As the name would seem to imply, Umbrella Music Festival is a 5-night celebration of improvisational jazz with mass appeal. You don't necessarily have to be a connoisseur of the saxophone or upright bass to appreciate the drum work of Mike Reed or the nerve calming sounds of the vibes.
Mike Daisey: American Utopia (Through 11/11)
As the Chicago Humanities Festival draws to a close, don't miss your last opportunity to catch renowned satirist and story teller, Mike Daisey, at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Daisey's overarching tale of American idealism is told through coming of age moments from his life including experiences at Disney World, Burning Man, and with the Occupy Movement. It'll make you laugh and think and stuff.
Warm Up & Bear Down Chili Cook-Off (11/11)
The Moonshine Brewery is hosting some of Chicago's best chili cooks in a cutthroat competition to determine the city's greatest ground beef and bean matchmaker. There will be beer. There will be crackers. There will be salsa stained Matt Forte jerseys. See you there!
Chicago Bears vs. Houston Texans (11/11)
With Derrick Rose noticeably absent of collateral ligaments and the White Sox and Cubs coming off disappointing campaigns, thank the ghost of George Halas that the Bears are one of the best teams in football. The class of the NFC North takes on the 7-1 Houston Texans in a nationally televised, primetime game at Soldier Field.
