Chicago St. Patrick's Day Celebrations

This world-renowned ritual is a can't-miss St. Patrick's Day thrill. See the Chicago River dyed green from Columbus Drive to Wacker Drive in one of the cities oldest traditions, dating back more than 50 years. The eco-friendly dye is poured into the river to turn it an emerald green, but it only lasts around five hours so make sure to be there ahead of time! Join 400,000 other spectators for this beloved event.

If you can't make it out to the river, Choose Chicago will have a live stream at 9:15 using the video streaming app Meerkat. Follow @ChooseChicago on Twitter Saturday to get the link!

South side irish parade

No holiday is complete without a parade, and Chicago's St. Patrick's Day Parade doesn't disappoint! One of the largest of its kind in the country, this parade between Balbo Drive and Monroe Drive draws big crowds to see colorful floats and Irish flags flown high. Wear green and revel in performances by Irish step dancers, bagpipe players and more.

ShamROCK Chicago

The whole city will be lighting up green this weekend, as the ShamROCK Chicago initiative takes over iconic Chicago buildings and institutions. Come together with other diverse groups supporting Chicago's rich Irish heritage and strong cultural ties in efforts to continue the city's tradition as the "greenest city in the world."

This five-day celebration includes a nightly "GREENing" show projected onto the exterior of Block Thirty Seven. Take a selfie wearing your greenest and submit to social media with the hashtag #ShamROCKChicago to get your larger-than-life self up on the side of the building. To learn more, click the link above!
