Celebrate America's 238th birthday this weekend by taking part in some choice Chicago activities with friends and family. Watch the Fourth of July fireworks spectacular over our stunning skyline or chow down on some BBQ while grooving to some live music. Or do both. And more. Isn't doing more what America's all about?
Chicago's fireworks spectacular on the Fourth is the city's biggest pyrotechnics spectacle. Watch the entire show from amazing Lake Michigan vantage points on a Fourth of July Fireworks Cruise. Seadog Cruises, Mystic Blue, Spirit of Chicago, and Odyssey Cruises all offer exciting excursions on the water for the fireworks that light up Chicago's beautiful sky.
If you prefer to stay on solid ground to watch the fireworks, Navy Pier's rooftop can't be beaten. Featuring a BBQ feast, full bar, and live music, Freedom Fest 2014 is your go-to all-ages event to indulge in some great food and views of the city.
Nicknamed the "Woodstock of House Music," the Chosen Few Old School Reunion Picnic is a giant gathering of house music fans looking to have the time of their lives. Started by a group of old DJ and producer friends, the Chosen Few Picnic has evolved into a huge party with close-knit family vibe. Keep that World Cup fever going with this Independence Day soccer festival in Washington Park! As part of the 25th annual African Festival of the Arts Chicago, the Pan-African Soccer Festival will feature teams from Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Cameroon and more as they take to the pitch. Winning team takes home a cash prize and bragging rights. Sounds like the American Way.
Windy City Ribfest (7/4-6)
Meeeeaaaat. There's no lack of giant hunks of pork and beef at the sixth annual Windy City Ribfest in Uptown. Slather up your slabs with award-winning barbeque sauce and gloat at the vegetarians who are just plain missing out.
Dave's been doing his thing for a while now, but he hasn't lost a step. Watch him perform two nights with the rest of the Dave Matthews Band at FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island. You won't be disappointed.
