It's beginning to look a lot like... the weekend, finally! Before you head out of town for the holidays (or receive one too many family members into your home here), take the weekend to enjoy all Chicago has to offer in the winter. Take that long overdue trip to Shedd Aquarium to see the Holiday Fantasea show, see a breath-taking performance, drink some beer (in style), or anything in between. Here it is, your weekend alert.
In its final few daysthis weekend, Shedd Aquarium's Holiday Fantesea offers fun for the whole family (and even for adults without kids!) This multi-speciees aquatic show in the Abbott Oceanarium features Pacific white-sided dolphins, beluga whales and sea lions, and rumor has it these animals might just be singing and dancing along to holiday sountrack... Does a day at the aquariuim get any better than that? (Answer: it does not.)
Redmoon's 15th Annual Winter Pageant is a performance not to be missed this season. It presents a new original myth inspired by the poem "The Conference of the Birds," telling the story of a flock of birds who journey from their lost king. You've seen the nutcracker already this season, so take advantage of the final weekend of Winter Pageant and enjoy the remakrable talent of the case in this nontraditional family production.
Here's all you need to know: Craft beer. Wine. Cider. Local Music. Are you in yet? If you still need some convincing, we'll tell you that at Living Social's Craft Beerfest this weekend at Union Station, you'll find a selection of more than 80 beers, wines and ciders to sample over the course of two days, accompanied by live local music, giant beer pong, a DJ dance party and of course, local eats to wash it all down - for just $40. Take the chance to unwind from the chaos of the pre-holiday season and treat yourself to a Beerfest ticket - you'll thank yourself later.
The Museum of Contemporary Art marks the 10th anniversary of Taiko Legacy this weekend with two distince programs; live performances by three generations of drummers from Chicago and the Bay Area in Taiko Legacy 10 and by revisiting the 1970s music and theater experiments of Tokyo in Reduction. The show is co-presented with Asian Improv aRts Midwest, and is part of MCA's Global Stage series. Ever experienced this kind of performance at the MCA? Now's your chance.
This weekend, the blues community in Chicago will be coming together in a special way to celebrate and honor blues legend Lonnie Brooks for his 80th Birthday. The House of Blues will host the event with someone you may know as the MC... Dan Aykroyd anyone? Brooks has been a major player on the blues scene for decades and coming together to celebrate him this weekend is a very talent group of special guests, including Otis Clay, Big Head Toff, Kim Wilson of The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and so many more!
