Chicago, we may be in the dog days of summer, but don't let that you miss out on some really special events this weekend. Food, drinks and live entertainment abound. Get your culture on with the Chicago Dancing Festival, or get rowdy at the Bacon, Sports & Beer Celebration. The choice, as always, is entirely yours.
CHICAGO DANCING FESTIVAL (8/20-23)
All across the city, more than 60 exceptional dance companies take to the stage for this free dancing extravaganza. This is your chance to see the best in ballet, modern, ethnic and rhythmic dancing - featuring performers from The Juilliard School, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and the Joffrey Ballet. THE MAGNIFICENT MILE SHOPPING FESTIVAL (8/22-9/1)
When's the last time you bought something nice for yourself? Or gave someone a gift? Even if it was yesterday or a year ago, you should absolutely take advantage of the Magnificent Mile Shopping Festival, featuring some can't-miss deals and special offers sure to push that spending budget of yours. This weekend's offerings include "A Magnificent Taste" (8/22), the summer's premier culinary event, and ShopFest (8/23-24), a whole weekend of pop-up shopping along North Michigan Avenue.
Otherwise known as "Heaven on Earth." This fest on Saturday brings together three of life's greatest creations for an unforgettable event at Chicago Union Station's Great Hall. Sample 20+ delicious bacon inspired creations and 20+ beer tastings from craft breweries, all in the midst of a fun sports-themed environment. Wear your favorite player's jersey while stroking some shots at Pop-a-Shot hoops, playing sports trivia and jamming out to some '90s/'00s hip hop.
Chicago Fashion Fest invites you to two days of non-stop fashionista action celebrating Chicago's top designers, boutiques and latest looks. The fashion-forward street fest features a bleachered-in runway stage where bands and DJs will set the tone as models tout "What's in" for end of summer and fall 2014. Over 20 unique fashion runway shows (15-20 minutes each) will be included over the two days, including segments like: vintage, kids, teen, back-to-school, curvaceous, bridal, ‘Do-Fashion' (with only Division Street boutiques) and more.
SAUSAGEFEST CHICAGO (8/22-24)
Hey, let's not forget bacon's equally delicious pork variety cousin: sausage. From Polish to Kielbasa, Old Town's SausageFest has your favorite encased meat at the ready. While enjoying some gourmet sausage, check out the arts, games and live music on this weekend-long block party. Make sure to check out the Medieval Times SausageFeast and Tournament, as well as the annual philanthropic competition Sausage King of Chicago, with donations going to the Wounded Warrior Project.
