The FIVB World League, the premier international men's volleyball tournament, is headed to Chicago this summer!
Head to UIC Pavilion on June 13th and 14th to watch the No. 4 ranked U.S. Men's National Team take on the No. 9 ranked Serbian Men's National Team as both teams attempt to qualify for the final round of the tournament and a chance to win $1 million.
Among the players on the U.S. men's roster are Olympic gold medalists Sean Rooney, a native of Wheaton, Ill., David Lee and Reid Priddy and Olympian Matt Anderson.
Illinois native Rooney, an outside hitter, attended Pepperdine University in Malibu where he was a four-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All American. By the end of his collegiate career he ranked second nationally among NCAA Division I-II players in points per game and was named the 2005 Division I-II National Player of the year. In 2005 he also led Pepperdine to the NCAA Men's National Volleyball Championship and was named MVP.
After college, Rooney went on to play volleyball professionally, playing in Korea, where he led his team to two consecutive Korean League titles and earned MVP awards, as well as in Russia and the AVP beach volleyball tour. In 2008, Rooney made his Olympic debut at the Beijing Summer Olympics, where he helped team USA win Gold. He competed on the U.S. Olympic team in 2012 as well.
