After college, Rooney went on to play volleyball professionally, playing in Korea, where he led his team to two consecutive Korean League titles and earned MVP awards, as well as in Russia and the AVP beach volleyball tour. In 2008, Rooney made his Olympic debut at the Beijing Summer Olympics, where he helped team USA win Gold. He competed on the U.S. Olympic team in 2012 as well.
