My daughter, age three, loves to dance. Turn on some music - any music - and she'll starting twirling, swirling and tapping her toes. That's why I'm so happy that Chicago dance companies and schools are looking to include the next generation of budding performers and theater-goers in their programming. If you have a kid on your hands that loves to dance, then don't miss Columbia College's popular FamilyDance Matinee Series.

This hour-long family program, hosted by some of the top contemporary dance companies, is a great way to extend your child's dance experience and knowledge. Wear your dance gear and plan on dancing along with your kids in the added optional hands-on movement workshop for children and adults.

On April 6, the Delfos Danza Contemporanea will be hosting the matinee at 3PM. This program takes place at the Columbia College Dance Center, conveniently located in the South Loop at 1306 S. Michigan Ave. The Roosevelt train stop (Red, Orange and Green lines) is three blocks west, and many CTA buses service the area.

Each FamilyDance Matinee features a FREE pre-concert Adult/Child Movement Workshop led by company members beginning at 2:15PM. Oh, and no experience is necessary (so no excuses for not joining in, Mom and Dad!). The series is also rather affordable. Tickets are $15 for adults and children under 12 years old get in FREE!
