Chicago has long been lauded for its improv and sketch comedy scene, but while everyone cheered on the Second City's and iOs, the Windy City developed a cutting edge stand-up scene to round out our claim of "Comedy Capital of the World." With a slew of new venues to showcase talent, including UP Comedy Club and the Laugh Factory, which comedians will top the Chicago scene in 2013?

Nominee: Ever Mainard
With videos featured on Jezebel.com and a growing reputation as one of the best female stand-ups in Chicago, Ever (@EverMainard) was a sure-fire nominee for the 2012 Choosie Award. Her ability to find hilarity in tough subjects and her unique perspective on the everyday makes Ever a delight to watch. Here's Ever at the Chicago Underground Comedy Jam:
Nominee: Adam Burke
I first heard of Adam Burke (@atpburke) when he won UP Comedy Club's stand-up competition and did a feature set for UP's Grand Opening. But Adam had already been a revered stand-up in Chicago well before that. Adam's sharp wit and observations (and accent), make him definite must-see in Chicago. Here's Adam at Chicago Underground Comedy:
Nominee: Marty DeRosa
Marty (@MartyDerosa) is renowned for his expert crowd work, high energy and exhaustive knowledge of professional wrestling. He's part of one of Chicago's most popular showcases, Comedians You Should Know. Beyond the stage Marty does two popular, and hilarious, video series with wrestler/comedian Colt Cabana. Check him out in "$5 Wrestling" and "Creative Has Nothing For You." Here's Marty on Backstage Chicago:
Nominee: Brian Babylon
Brian (@BrianBabylon) hosts Vocolo.org's Morning AMp and is a frequent guest on NPR's "Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me," alongside being one of Chicago's comic luminaries. His comedy bridges race and class to shed light on what's truly ridiculous about our society. Here's Brian at The Comedy Bar:
Nominee: Sean Flannery
Sean's (@Sean_M_Flannery) ballsy comedy with a bar room flair, mixes tales of drunken mischief and self-deprecating jabs. He's done feature spots all over Chicago and opened for headliners like Marc Maron. Here's Sean at the Lincoln Lodge:
And the Choosie Goes To...
In a tough contest, with five stellar comics, the Choosie Award for Best Local Comedian goes to... Brian Babylon! For his smart, bold and genuine comedy in 2012.
