Love the great outdoors? Love live theater? Theatre-Hikes combines the best of worlds with its off-the-beaten path performances, all held outdoors at some of the most scenic and interesting venues in Chicago. Instead of warming up a seat, theater-goers hike along pathways, where they encounter characters at stops along the way. 2014 marks Theatre-Hikes' 13th season and promises to bring new stories to new and interesting spaces.
When you arrive at a Theatre-Hikes performance you are greeted a Hike Leader who will guide you down a short walk to the first scene of the show. You will sit for a bit and enjoy and then pick up your seats and walk to the next scene. Bring a blanket or a folding chair if you'd like; some venues are also open to hikers bringing along snacks and drinks.
The 2014 season includes Alice In Wonderland and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown as well as locally written works such as Resurrected: Grave Chicago Tales, a play written specifically for Theatre-Hikes Chicago, telling classic Chicago ghost stories such as Resurrection Mary, a ghost that many believe haunts Resurrection Cemetery. The backdrops for this year's performances are the Pullman State Historic Site, North Park Village Nature Center, Ravenswood Manor Park, and The Morton Arboretum, all of which are destined to add to the ambiance and fun of enjoying theater in the great outdoors.
