Have you ever wanted to snooze with Sue the T.rex? Explore a museum... by flashlight? Sleep with the fishes — literally? So many of our beloved Chicago institutions offer overnights for families, making for an exciting alternative to the usual tourist hotel and an exciting city adventure like no other. Here are three amazing, upcoming opportunities to spend the night at a museum (or aquarium!).
Asleep with the Fishes at the Shedd Aquarium
At the Shedd Aquarium's Asleep with the Fishes overnight on Friday, March 18, you'll be able to fall asleep for the night among fascinating sea creatures. Get up close and personal with all the fishes you love as you set of on a scavenger hunt and take in an aquatic show. Don't forget to pay a visit to the amphibians at their special exhibit! Families can opt to stay the night to sleep next to the fishes, or head home after the evening's activities.

Overnight on Olympus at the Hellenic Museum
On April 15-16, from 7pm - 10am, the Hellenic Museum in Chicago's Greektown will be offering a mythological night at the museum. This unique cultural gem aims to connect visitors to the history of the Greek immigrant while also showcasing Greek culture and Greek-American artists and the kid-geared overnight gives children the chance to explore ancient Greece with their own eyes and hands. Kids will get up close and personal with the Greek Gods of Olympus and experience daily life in Ancient Greece via crafts, dancing, cooking, movie-making and more. Explore the museum by flashlight at night, snuggle to bed in your sleeping bag then wake up to a light Greek breakfast.
Dozin' with the Dinos at The Field Museum
If you've ever dreamed of having a slumber party with Sue the T.rex, The Field Museum has you covered! At Dozin' with the Dinos you'll spend a night at the museum, and not only dream of dinos but sleep in their shadows! There's nothing quite like being in this awe-inspiring museum after dark: explore ancient Egyptian culture by flashlight, sneak around the savannah where giraffes and man-eating lions lurk around every corner. Play games from around the world or learn more about giant backyard bugs. Snuggle into your sleeping bag near one of the museum's amazing exhibits and fall asleep to dreamy bedtime stories.
Overnights are only available for families and groups with children ages 6-12. Learn more or register at fieldmuseum.org/at-the-field/programs/dozin-dinos.
