Internationally renowned comedian, actor and now author Jim Gaffigan swings by UP Comedy Club on May 10 for a noon book signing and Q & A to launch his new book, Dad Is Fat. If you can make the trip, you'll treated to an intimate look at a comedian who usually sells out theatres ten times the size of UP. Tickets include a copy of the book, which Jim will be signing after the show.
I was late to the Jim Gaffigan party. But it was impossible not to discover him when my friends spent weeks passing around his famous "Hot Pockets" clip (embedded below). Gaffigan was already a big name when Beyond the Pale hit in 2006, featuring Hot Pockets and many other viral clips. And he's only been building since. Aside from stand-up, he was a regular on "My Boys" and has appeared on everything from "Late Night" to "Law and Order."
According to Jim, he never intended to have kids. But after he and his wife Jeanne had five of them, he's come to understand the transformative power of parenthood. He started sharing his misadventures in childrearing on Twitter (@JimGaffigan) and something about the combo of humor and vulnerability struck a chord with readers. His Twitter account's grown to over one million followers, and there aren't enough characters in a tweet to say everything he'd like to. So he wrote Dad Is Fat.
He'll be reading from the book, taking questions and talking off the cuff. So tell your boss you've got a doctor's appointment and sneak over to see him. It's a rare opportunity to see a great comedian in such a personal event.
Jim Gaffigan will be at UP Comedy Club on May 10 at 12:00pm. Tickets are available at UPComedyClub.com.
