Christmas trees are like Kardashians. They have an enormous following, they're shiny and they'll never go away (I mean that as a compliment, of course). This time of year, I buy my Christmas tree and always get a great one at Gethsemane (5739 N. Clark). Once it's set up, I compare my new living room staple against the holiday symbols of Chicago. Amazing Christmas trees are all around us in this city, so long as you know where to look.
Old Orchard Mall (4999 Old Orchard, Skokie, IL)
As the third largest mall in Illinois, this place is pretty easy to spot. Parking is free and taking in their beautiful Christmas tree is fun for the whole family. The suburban location might be inconvenient, if you're staying in a downtown hotel. Ask the front desk or concierge about a possible shuttle service to the mall. Every property is different, so ask first.
Chase Tower (550 W. Adams St.)
This is a full Christmas tree with colored lights in the lobby that you will not want to miss! As an added bonus, you can make a holiday shopping withdrawal too, it is a bank.
Daley Plaza (50 W. Washington St.)
It's impossible to miss this HUGE Christmas tree in the plaza. Chicago's official tree looks as though it took the man power of 100 people just to put it up. Daley Plaza during the holidays is a great place to just look and say "WOW!"
Macy's on State (111 N. State St.)
It might be tough to get through the hordes of holiday shoppers and sale signs, but if you make it to the eight floor, you'll see a beautiful tree. Holiday goodies and seasonal charms abound at this iconic symbol of Christmas time in Chicago.
The Drake Hotel (140 E. Walton St.)
I go here a few times a year for lunch and a glass of wine. This almost Hollywood-like setting is the kind of thing ABC Family's "25 Days of Christmas" was made for. Quite relaxing with an old charm goes great with any drink.
John Hancock Center (875 N. Michigan Ave.)
Located at the nerve center of The Magnificent Mile, this place has a gigantic tree and some of the best people watching around. Easily accessible and beautiful, don't miss this one!
Until our next adventure... Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas!
