Just because Chicago doesn't abut an ocean shouldn't suggest our seafood isn't second to none. An apt celebration of our stellar seafood can be enjoyed at Shaw's Oyster Fest Block Party, taking place September 26.

Shaw's Crab House is one of the city's preeminent destinations for pristine fish and seafood of all sorts, making the revered restaurant an ideal institution for hosting an annual Oyster Fest. One slurp of these ocean-fresh bivalves and you'll feel as close to the sea as ever, let alone multiple slurps.

Taking place from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. on September 26, the oyster showcase features live music, Goose Island beers, BBQ from Bub City, and a plethora of fresh seafood joining the East and West Coast oysters, such as sushi, lobster rolls, fried oysters and Shaw's signature crab bites.

Shaw's Oyster Fest

Since Shaw's Crab House can't house the thousands of attendees expected to attend, the event takes place along the Chicago River at 560 W. Grand Ave., with this year's festivities holding special merit in that Shaw's recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. There will also be an Oyster Slurp Off pitting oyster die-hards against one another in a competition to slurp the most oysters and take home a $1,000 prize.

While slurping up some of the nearly 15,000 oysters on hand, enjoy some live music from singer/songwriter Brett Dennen, as well as an acoustic performance from Odessa and the Shaw's Band.

Tickets are available for $25 per person at www.oysterfestchicago.com. Choose Chicago will be giving away a limited number of tickets this week, so follow @ChooseChicago and see how to win! Make sure to also follow @ShellyfromShaws and get in on the action with #ShawsOysterFest.
