As the snow disappears from Chicago's streets, runners have started to enjoy the open roads all over the city. And on March 29, the city will be on display with an annual tradition that presents athletes with the unique opportunity to run an 8K and grab a beer at the finish line.
Starting and finishing in Grant Park, the 36th annual Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K will take runners through beautiful Chicago. The finish line will feature a festive atmosphere, including live music at the traditional Post-Race Party in Grant Park.
Included in the field this year will be the seventh annual Elite Club 8K Competition, featuring men's and women's USATF member racing teams from across the country, who will compete for a $20,000 prize purse. Last year's competition attracted more than 200 national and local elite runners from nine states and more than 40 clubs.
Even if you don't feel like running the 8K, runners are invited to kick off the spring season with race participants. In the two days prior to the race, McCormick Place will be home to the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle Health & Fitness Expo (Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28), featuring more than 80 industry-related exhibitors. The Health & Fitness Expo is free and open to the public.
