It's no secret that Chicagoans love to eat... and eat well. Named the best restaurant city in America by Condé Nast Traveler, our windy city is a mecca for gourmets, gourmands and everyone who just loves to take a bite into the extraordinary. One of the city's premier foodie events, Chicago Gourmet (September 19–24), is celebrating its 10th birthday in 2017, and several new anniversary events promise to bring star chefs and foodies together in Millennium Park and beyond for a bash like no other. 

Tickets go on sale Thursday, June 22, at 10 a.m. Here are seven spectacular Chicago Gourmet events that you won't want to miss.



1.  Cocktails on the Crown

September 19, 6–8 p.m.

The Crown at Tribune Tower Chicago

Step atop the 25th floor of the iconic Tribune Building (435 N. Michigan Avenue), which is usually closed to the general public, and sip cocktails prepared by the city's top mixologists as you catch the sunset and magnificent skyline views in this ultimate toast to the Chicago food scene.

Produced in partnership with the James Beard Foundation’s Greens program, which curates events for foodies under 40 (Greens members receive a discount on ticket pricing), this don't-miss event kicks off the Chicago Gourmet birthday festivities.


2.  Daring Design Dinner at the Robie House

September 20, 7–10 p.m.

If you've ever dreamed of dining in the Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House (5757 S. Woodlawn Avenue) in Hyde Park, here's your chance: All-star chefs Matthias Merges (Yusho, Billy Sunday) and Carrie Nahabedian (NAHA, Brindille) will take over the kitchen of the historic home and present a multi-course meal to remember.  



3.  Japanese Dinner under the Stars on the Pritzker Pavilion

September 23, 7:30–10 p.m.

Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park Chicago

Enjoy a magical evening under the stars on the Pritzker Pavilion’s dramatic main stage at Millennium Park (201 E. Randolph Street).

Celebrity chef Ivan Orkin (Ivan Ramen, Chef’s Table), Chicago’s own Takashi Yagihashi and international star Naoyuki Yanagihara (vice president of Yanagihara School of Traditional Japanese Cuisine) will join forces to create what promises to be an unforgettable multi-course Japanese dinner with expertly matched selections from Suntory Toki whiskey and Joto Sake.



4.  Sweets & Beats: After Hours Dance Party on the Willis Tower Skydeck

September 23, 11 p.m.–2 a.m.

Mindy's HotChocolate 10th Anniversary cake for Chicago Gourmet

Host chef Mindy Segal (Mindy’s HotChocolate) teams up with Chicago’s “first ladies of pastry” for a funky, pastry-centered party featuring custom dessert bites, cocktails and more. Burn all the calories away as you dance to the DJ beats on the 103rd floor of the sky-high Willis Tower (233 S. Wacker Drive).



5.  Rise & Shine Gourmet at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel

September 24, 8:30–10:45 a.m. or 10 a.m.–12:15 p.m.

Make it a healthy Chicago Gourmet weekend with Rise & Shine Gourmet: This professionally guided, energizing yoga session is hosted at the historic, recently restored Chicago Athletic Association Hotel (12 S. Michigan Avenue). Power up with yoga and then indulge in brunch bites and morning cocktails presented by acclaimed Chicago Gourmet chefs!



6.  Farm2Table Dinner on the 606

September 20, 6–9 p.m.

The 606, a 2.7-mile trail that connects four ground-level parks and four amazing Chicago neighborhoods, is set high above the city streets on tall, steel-reinforced concrete embankments that once carried train tracks. Running along Bloomingdale Avenue from Ashland Avenue on the east to Ridgeway Avenue on the west, this glorious stretch of green space and trails for runners, walkers, bikers and nature lovers offers a truly bird's-eye view into Chicago city life.

Now you can dine on this green gateway: Legendary chef Rick Bayless (Frontera Restaurants) will be hosting the Farm2Table Dinner on the 606, a unique, farm-to-table seated event, which will include featured pours by Casa Noble Tequila and pairings with New Zealand’s biodynamic Trinity Hill Winery.



7.  Hamburger Hop at the Harris Theater Rooftop

September 22, 6–9 p.m.

Hamburger Hop at Chicago Gourmet

Chicago Gourmet's annual burger bash, presented by Buckhead Beef and Blue Moon Brewing Co., returns with a foodie competition that celebrates everybody's favorite, all-American treat. Newcomer chefs will compete against previous Hamburger Hop winners for an opportunity to be crowned the true Burger King, on the Harris Theater Rooftop (205 E. Randolph Street).

Bon Appétit magazine editor-in-chief Adam Rapoport and deputy editor Andrew Knowlton return as the evening’s hosts, alongside a panel of celebrity judges.


Ticket sales for select Bon Appétit presents Chicago Gourmet events will open June 22, with additional on-sale dates to be announced later this summer for the remaining events. Tickets will be available at Tickets for the Main Event and Grand Cru, presented by Celebrity Cruises, as well as travel packages are on sale now.
