Mercat a la Planxa's Paella Cook Off // September 7

Several of Chicago's top chefs representing restaurants like Animale, Travelle, Two and Vie will cook up their most unique paellas in Mercat a la Planxa's recently renovated South Loop dining room. Enjoy paella samples along with Spanish tapas, sangria and wine while listening to traditional Spanish music and watching flamenco dancers. Sepia Celebrates 10 Years // September 8-17

Michelin-starred Sepia, one of the pioneering restaurants in thte West Loop restaurant corridor, turns 10 years old in September. Chefs Andrew Zimmerman, Adam Zoscsak and Sarah Mispagel have crafted a 10-course tasting menu that takes guests down memory lane with beloved dishes from years past like foie royale on brioche and tea-smoked duck breast with black garlic gnocchi. Food will be complemented by $10 cocktails and wine pairings from the 2007 vintage by James Beard Finalist sommelier Arthur Hon. Smoketober Fest // September 16 - October 3

In honor of the world's largest beer festival, Wicker Park's Smoke Daddy will serve specialty German dishes like smoked German sausage sandwich with potato salad ($10) and giant pretzels with beer cheese and caramelized onion mustard ($13.95) for a couple of weeks. Chicago was recently named Bon Appétit magazine's Restaurant City of the Year and we're ready to show the world we deserve the title with this 10th anniversary culinary bash. A star-studded lineup of celebrity chefs will include local favorites Stephanie Izard, Rick Bayless and Sarah Grueneberg along with Carla Hall, Curtis Stone and a record 15 Master Sommeliers for the Grand Cru tasting and leading wine seminars like “Champagne and Caviar Dreams.” Events supplementing the grand weekend tasting include rooftop dinners, gourmet ballpark fare at Wrigley Field and a dessert dance party. Brooklyn Brewery's eccentric beer festival returns to Chicago for an interactive weekend celebration of beer, food, music and games. Themed beer tasting rooms deconstruct the anatomy of beer, take you through the tropics or a forest and feature homegrown talent Marz Community Brewing, Solemn Oath and Hopewell Brewing Company. Foodies will enjoy edible spin-art and food from local vendors like Budlong Hot Chicken and Bombay Wraps.
