Lincoln Hall

For anyone who enjoys good music and friendly neighborhood bars, sister venues Schubas Tavern and Lincoln Hall are fantastic contenders for a night on the town. The venues' well-deserved reputations as two of Chicago's most-beloved (and, some would argue, two of its best-sounding) concert halls are known throughout the city and beyond. In fact, both were recently featured on Rolling Stone's list of "The Best Clubs in America."

Located in Lakeview and Lincoln Park, respectively, Schubas and Lincoln Hall are easily accessible by CTA, car, or bike, and are close to shopping, dining, and other attractions.

Built in 1903, Schubas Tavern got its start as one of the famed Schlitz tied houses. The Schlitz "Globe" logo can still be seen on the side of the building. Today, the club features an intimate main room (capacity 169), a full-service bar in the front of the house, and adjoining restaurant Harmony Grill (the full menu is available on either side, and don't forget to stop by for brunch!).

Schubas books local and touring indie rock and folk acts. Its wood-paneled walls complement acoustic sounds. In recent years, the club's presented an increasing number of electronic and hip-hop events. While many of its concerts feature emerging talent, it's also a favorite of established iconic artists looking for a place to present fans with stripped-down, acoustic sets. Along with the main room, the club's even more cozy upstairs room hosts events such as stand-up comedy, DJ nights, and private events.

In 2009, the owners of Schubas bought the old 3 Penny Cinema and revamped it into Lincoln Hall, a bi-level concert venue that still feels warm and comfortable despite its theater-like atmosphere and ability to hold up to 600 concertgoers. Like Schubas, the club hosts a mix of local artists and some of the world's hottest touring acts and, in tribute to the building's movie theater past, an assortment of brew-and-view film nights.
