It just so happens that Chicago's oldest public building is throwing the world's largest block party and it all happens this weekend, June 27th and 28th!
Old St. Pat's, just west of the Loop, is throwing its 30th annual World's Largest Block Party, and best of all, it's for a good cause. Proceeds from the block party support the mission and outreach activities of Old St. Pat's including the Education Center, the Outreach Group, Horizons For Youth, Career Transitions Center of Chicago and Global Alliance for Africa.
The World's Largest Block Party is sponsored by WXRT and WKQX, and of course, that means it has some great music in store. On Friday the 27th, get ready for a stacked line-up starting at 5:40 p.m. with The Leadfoot Band followed by acoustic folk-rock singer/songwriter Stephen Kellogg at 6:30 p.m. Following him is one of my personal favorites, G. Love and Special Sauce. The guitar pluckin', foot stompin', harmonica playin' G. Love is a Chicago favorite and is sure to get the whole crowd grooving starting at 7:40 Friday night.
Starting at 9:00 p.m. and closing out the night is the alternative-rock band Guster. Having a lustrous career spanning two decades, this Boston band will have you moving to singles like "Satellite" and "One Man Wrecking Machine." It's hard to believe that all this great music will be played on just the first day!
Starting off Saturday night at 5:40 p.m. is the rock band No Love For Linus, who will be followed by the Southern California alternative rock band The Mowgli's at 7:00 p.m. The Mowgli's have been burning up the radio waves with their single "San Francisco." Especially at this early stage of their career, the Mowgli's is a must-see band, so be sure to get there early!
Finishing out the block party is Third Eye Blind. Not needing much of an intro, this '90s and 2000's band is sure to pack the block party and rock the house with classics like "Jumper," "Semi-Charmed Life," and "How's It Going To Be." Be sure to grab a good spot at 9:00 p.m.!
Not only does The World's Largest Block Party have some great music, they have some fantastic eats and drinks. Enjoy some of Chicago's tastiest treats including Connie's Pizza, Quang Noodles, Nicholas Quality Meats, brats, hamburgers, and much more! I think it's worth mentioning that every admittance ticket includes four, yes four, free drinks! When it comes to festivals, this is unheard of, and a great deal.
Finally, be sure to buy some raffle tickets. Prizes include gift cards to various Chicago restaurants and bars, gym memberships, jewelry, and many more. This year the grand prize will be a year of free rent at Presidential Towers or a round trip visit to Ireland. Be sure to participate in the Pot O'Gold Raffle, and more than $34,000 in cash prizes will be raffled off!
As an Old St. Pat's block party veteran, I can assure you that this is one of the best weekend fests in Chicago. Be sure not to miss it!
