My kids love riding the Chicago Transit Authory "L" trains. Any excuse is a good excuse to hop aboard a train, as far as they're concerned!

If you're visiting Chicago with kids, here's a good reasonto take a fun train ride: Cookies and milk! If you're coming from the Loop, you'll pass by amazing buildings, over the Chicago River, and through a tunnel before arriving at a delicious house-made cookie emporium.

Hop on a Red, Brown, or Purple Line train and head north towards the FULLERTON stop (it's about a 10/15 minute ride from the Loop). From the Fullerton stop, walk down Lincoln Avenue, one block north of Fullerton Avenue, where you'll find Cookie Bar at 2475 North Lincoln Avenue.

Grab a glass or a shot of milk and cozy up to the bar overlooking the busy street scene in this corner cookie store. Tap to the beat of '70s tunes as you indulge in more than 15 different types of cookies, baked fresh daily, including standard favorites (think Chocolate Chip, Old School Sugar, Peanut Butter) and a series of rotating specials for the more adventuresome cookie lovers (Ginger Caramel, Black Sesame, Cardamom Crunch and more). I adore the Adult Chocolate Chip, which boasts 61 percent pure dark chocolate and a hint of coconut (from the coconut oil used in place of dairy to give a chewy texture). My son adores the Butterfinger, the perfect combination of his favorite candy bar and cookie (sugar).

Your kids won't even notice that many of the cookies are gluten-free and/or vegan- friendly. Gluten-free "Super Chocolate" and classic chocolate chip are always on the daily menu, as well as vegan/dairy-free cookies and more exotic options, including "Orange Blossom Cardamom" and "Oatmeal Chile Mango Macadamia."

To make a day of it, the Victory Gardens and Apollo (home of the Emerald City Children's Theatre) theaters are within a short walking distance down Lincoln Avenue and both offer great children's theater performances: Check their websites for upcoming shows.
