Chicago's Little Italy, located along Taylor Street, offers more than just great Italian food. This charming west side neighborhood is fast becoming one of Chicago's go-to dining destinations. Whether you're looking for the perfect Italian beef sandwich and a plate of pasta, or burgers and Italian ice, here's where to eat when feasting through Little Italy.
Breakfast: Sweet Maple Café (1339 W. Taylor St.)
Start your eating tour at the ‘40s-style restaurant that serves scrambles, breakfast tacos, build-your-own hash browns, and biscuits. Seriously, don’t miss the biscuits, which you can get topped with gravy, turned into a breakfast sandwich, or as a side dish.
Lunch: Al's Italian Beef (1079 W. Taylor St.) or Conte Di Savoia (1438 W. Taylor St.)
Visit the flagship location of the Italian beef restaurant for a meaty, spicy sandwich, or head to Italian market Conte Di Savoia for Italian subs with ham, salami, capocollo, and provolone layered on a roll with lettuce, tomato, and condiments. Pick up side dishes or Italian gourmet goodies to round out your meal.
Dinner: Three Aces (1321 W. Taylor St.) or Davanti Enoteca (1359 W. Taylor St.)
A cozy Italian spot, Davanti Enoteca offers pastas, like giant ravioli with ricotta, spinach, and egg, pizza, and spreads, like chicken liver pate and ricotta and honey. Three Aces has one of the best patios in the city, which is an ideal spot to dig into the terrific burger, topped with aged cheddar, bacon jam, aioli, and a pickle, and an order of Bolognese fries.
Dessert: Flirty Cupcakes (1030 W. Taylor St.) or Mario’s Italian Lemonade (1068 W. Taylor St.)
Flirty Cupcakes’ “dessert garage” is an industrial spot with free Wi-Fi, cozy seating, and lots and lots of sweets, including cupcakes, cake pops, mini pies, and pop-tarts. Mario’s Italian Lemonade serves tart ices in lemon and watermelon flavors, just what you want on a hot summer night in Chicago.
