Looking for a free family-friendly activity that's fun for all ages? Summer is one of the best seasons in Chicago, if only because there are so many ways to enjoy the beautiful weather. But what am I most excited for? The upcoming Millennium Park Film Series, in partnership with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, will present a different movie every Tuesday night at 6:30pm, starting with Ferris Bueller's Day Off on June 21!
For those new to or visiting the city, the Millennium Park Film Series is simply a series of film showings in iconic (and centrally-located) Millennium Park.
If you get to Millennium Park early enough before the movie, make sure to take a "Bean" selfie (it's practically a requirement) and maybe stop for a drink and bite to eat at the award-winning Park Grill, located a few feet away.
Once you're good and settled in with friends or family, you'll be able to enjoy many different film screenings, including:
- June 21: Ferris Bueller's Day Off
- June 28: Soul Food
- July 5: A League of Their Own
- July 12: Thelma & Louise
- August 2: West Side Story
- August 16: Finding Nemo
And so much more! Here's the full schedule of film screenings.
Special additions to this year's programming include a "Full Moon Double Feature" and an "Audience Choice" night where fans will have the opportunity to vote at chifilmfave.org which Chicago favorite film to be featured.
Films will be showing in Millennium Park (201 E. Randolph Street) on Tuesdays, from June 21 – August 30, at 6:30pm. General admission, no tickets required and seating is first-come first-serve. Feel free to take a seat at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, or lounge on the Great Lawn with a picnic spread. In either situation, you'll have the perfect view of our 40 foot LED screen!
