On September 4, Caroline Abbott will make her debut at American Girl Place in Chicago. Caroline is the 13th heroine to join American Girl's family of characters growing up in important time periods of American history, from 1764 to 1973. The fabulous series of books that accompanies her debut are set exactly 200 years ago, when Caroline was an independent and adventurous young girl living near Lake Ontario in New York.
When war broke out, British sailors captured her father and cousin, and Caroline learned quickly how to navigate difficult times with bravery and resilience. And now Caroline will come alive once again in doll form, just in time to celebrate the bicentennial of the Second War for Independence, sharing her stories with legions of the young girls that love their American Girl dolls. Join her as she makes her debut at American Girl Place in Chicago, and consider making a weekend of it with your own special American girl by spending the night at one of the many Chicago hotels offering special overnights for girls and their dolls.
American Girl Place Chicago is launching Caroline Abbot with an entire weekend of fun: On Tuesday, September 4, Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9, guests and dolls visiting American Girl Place Chicago will have the opportunity to participate in crafts inspired by Caroline's world, including:
- Caroline's Embroidered Card Craft: Learn how to stitch a colorful fireworks pattern on a patriotic greeting card.
- Caroline's Bonnet Craft: Create and decorate her own paper bonnet that's much like the one Caroline would have worn in 1812.
- Caroline's Sing-Along Demo: Learn two of the patriotic songs that Caroline would have known and loved in 1812.
Young guests will also have the chance to go on a scavenger hunt throughout the store and discover what it was like to grow up in America's past, where each girl will win a free American Girl poster. Special Caroline windows and product displays will round out the fun. For a full listing of store events, click here.
