Labor Day Weekend Comedy
Wednesday, August 27, 2014 12:00 AM by Kiley Peters
There are a number of comedy shows flying under the radar. First and foremost, iO Chicago is having their grand opening this weekend, so that almost trumps just about any other event this weekend. However, tickets are a little pricey, so if your wallet be more comfortable at a lower-priced ticket, then I have a few shows I think you should check out.
iO - Friday and Saturday evening
This weekend is monumental in Chicago comedy history. Dozens of iO alums will be back in town playing shows including Stephnie Weir (MadTv), David Koechner (Anchorman series), Jordan Klepper (The Daily Show), Seth Weitberg (Drunk History), Tim Baltz (Veep), Dan Bakkedahl (Veep), Scott Adsit and Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) and so many more. A lot of shows are already sold out, but if you're up for the madness, definitely get in on this little chunk of history.
The Annoyance - Saturday at 9:30pm
Chris Redd is a Chicago stand-up comedian, actor and improviser. He is currently involved in the Chicago-stacked NBC Sketch Pilot but meanwhile he's hosting a weekly variety showcase. You'll see a wide range of material from Redd, but each week he brings new talent (generally stand-ups) to the stage. Catch Chris Redd before he flees to Los Angeles, because it'll happen sooner or later...
ComedySportz - Monday at 8pm
This coming Monday is the final show of this eight-week comedy competition. Each week the eight finalist have been tasked with some sort of random challenge all in hopes of "impressing these apes" (the judges are dressed as apes). Monday night will be the finale and it's a free-for-all, so anything goes. This show comes highly recommended and if your Monday night is empty, fill it with some comedy that even monkeys will find funny.
