AShore Thing

It's been asked by the greatest poet of our generation, Drake, "Oh you fancy, huh?" If you answered this question with the Iggy Azalea's, "I'm so fancy," well it just so happens one of the fanciest events this summer, AShore Thing, is taking place this weekend, July 19th at Navy Pier.

Aside from the shameless pop music references, everyone should Visit AShore Thing this Saturday, hosted by Michigan Avenue Magazine and the Chicago Yacht Club. Be at the official viewing party for the parade of yachts and sailboats participating in the 106th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac and enjoy all the beautiful Lake Michigan coast has to offer.

The Race to Mackinac, formally known as the "Mac," is the longest running annual freshwater sailing race in the world spanning 333 miles! Starting back in 1898, the Mac has grown from a dangerous, five-boat race, to a technology based race with more than 300 vessels complete with over total 3,000 sailors. But before all these boats set sail, there's AShore Thing.

Race to Mackinac

Come to Navy Pier from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to partake in all that AShore Thing has to offer. Enjoy the cool lake breeze complimented by an awe-inspiring view of Lake Michigan. Lounge in luxury while sipping Veuve Clicquot, Belvedere cocktails, or grab an ice cold Stella Artois at the premium cash bar. Various other cocktails will be served by sponsors like The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in Vegas. As the boats pass by, you can learn more about each boat and the sailors via the Michigan Avenue Magazine personnel.

AShore Thing is family friendly too! Bring the kids out for various activities that will keep them entertained throughout the day. Take them to get their faces painted, play life-sized checkers, grab a balloon animal, and play "Buoy Buckets!"

Following the parade, prepare to party and dance! Each year, AShore Thing hires some of Chicago's greatest DJs to keep patrons moving and enjoying the beautiful weather.

So be sure to make the trip to Navy Pier this weekend to take part in all of the fancy activities. I've already taken the liberty to check the weather for you and it's supposed to be a high of 82 and sunny. In other words, it's going to be perfect out. So grab a shade umbrella, some champagne, and soak in the sun at this year's AShore thing!
