Happy Hauntings is here for another year of spooks, frights, and scares! The City of Chicago has once again gone all out to accommodate families with plenty of fun filled activities. Everything will be taking place Oct. 23-26, so be sure to visit the Chicago Cultural Center today! Best of all, all of these spooktacular activities will be completely free of charge! It's a scary good deal.
So let's jump into just what will be going the rest of this week and into the weekend.
Today, make your way to the Preston Bradley Hall on the third floor of the Chicago Cultural Center at 4:30 p.m. to watch Midnight Circus perform! Midnight Circus is comprised of a group of amazingly talented local performers that put on a top notch circus show all around Chicago. A traveling circus that travels to various Chicago parks if you will. They also raise a substantial amount of money for Chicago parks. Their show will be taking place from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., so be sure to catch all the action then. On the same floor there will be a 30-minute Ghost Tour at 6 p.m.! Hold on tight as a guide walks you through the scary supernatural history of Chicago.
On Friday, Oct. 24, Midnight Circus will once again be there to perform their high production circus for everyone and anyone! The circus will be performing three full shows on the third floor again. These performances will be taking place throughout the day at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., and 5 p.m., so be sure to show up early and catch one of the shows!
Also on Friday, be sure to catch the Batbuck$ Game Show. This is a game show filled with magic and comedy completely for kids. This game show will also be taking place on the third floor, as well as another Ghost Tour starting at 6 p.m.! In the Sidney R. Yates Gallery on the fourth floor, there will be arts, crafts, and face painting for kids to put on a ghoulish face fit for Halloween night.
On the first floor at Randolph Square, at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. enjoy Dave Herzog's Marionettes "Pumpkin Patch Review" and at 2:30 p.m. a comedy magic show "Magic That Quacks You Up." Finally, to round out a fun filled Friday, be sure to catch the PG-rated "Gremlins" at 6:30 p.m. on the second floor Claudia Cassidy Theater.
On Saturday, the Chicago Cultural Center is jam-packed with activities the whole family can enjoy! What better way to start off a Happy Hauntings Saturday than with a Monster Bash costume contest. Preston Bradley Hall will host the spooky costume contest at 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. There will be multiple categories including Best Baby Costume (1 and under), Scariest Costume, Funniest Costume, and Most Creative/Original Costume. There will be two winners for each category, so be sure to dress your best, or scariest!
Again, at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., and 5 p.m., the Midnight Circus performers will be putting on their infamous Midnight Circus, and at 6 p.m. will be another 30-minute Ghost Tour. On the Sidney R. Yates Gallery on the fourth floor, get ready for some green screen movie magic at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as you can take photos and change your surroundings with the click of a button!
From 1:30-3 there will also be a children's dance party and trick-or-treating while supplies last. Now, Randolph Square on the first floor will be your entertainment floor on Saturday. Oba King, a fantastic oral storyteller, will be there to tell tales of ghosts and ghouls from 1-2:30 p.m. Also performing on the first floor at 3 p.m. will be Mr. Singer and Kerry Applebaum, a musical duet, to sing some haunted toons. Finally, round out your Saturday with a showing of the critically acclaimed movie "Frankenweenie" on the second floor at 6 p.m.
The festivities continue on Sunday with more Midnight Circus performances at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., and 5 p.m., a musical dance performance at 3 and 6 p.m. by FCBC to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and another Ghost Tour at 6 p.m. all in the Preston Bradley Hall on the third floor. The Sidney R. Yates Gallery on the fourth floor will be hosting arts and crafts and greenscreen fun at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.! Finally, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Magic Matt's Family Fun Shows will keep kids and adults entertained throughout the evening with some haunting illusions and magic tricks. It's hard to believe that all these great activities are FREE!
