Not that we really need further validation that Chicago is a world-class food city, but another new food festival certainly adds a welcome feather to our cap. Or our toque, rather. The Chicago Food + Wine Festival is the latest, taking place August 28 through August 30 in Lincoln Park.
Food & Wine Magazine has emerged on the scene with their new Chicago festival, the aptly dubbed Chicago Food + Wine Festival. It's an immersive multi-day experience featuring a who's-who of chefs, sommeliers, restaurateurs, and spirits experts from throughout the city and beyond. Chefs will gather en masse from across the country to tout Chicago's incredible food scene.
Guests at Chicago Food + Wine Festival can expect a miscellany of tasting events, endless wine and cocktail samples, seminars, cooking demonstrations, and lots more, culminating at the Grand Tasting Pavilion. The latter is an impressive showcase of over 90 wine, spirit, and food exhibitors, along with restaurants from near and far.
There's also a book tent where attendees can pick up chef-authored books and have them signed on-site.
Some special noteworthy events on the itinerary for the weekend include the kick-off event on Friday evening, which consists of a five-course al fresco meal prepared by acclaimed chefs. For a nightcap, there's also a sweet event on Saturday evening called Last Call, which focuses on drinks and desserts.
Local chef talents on hand for the festival include Rick Bayless, Jimmy Bannos Sr. and Jimmy Bannos Jr., Graham Elliot, Stephanie Izard, Fabio Viviani, Tony Mantuano, Art Smith, Mindy Segal, John Manion, Christine Cikowski, Jessica Oloroso, Joshua Kulp, Paula Haney, and plenty others. Chicago will play host to chefs from other parts of the country, like Tim Love from Fort Worth, Ludo Lefebvre from Los Angeles, and Jonathan Waxman from New York City.
